Is one of the main female sex hormones mainly produced in the ovaries. Large surges of estrogen during puberty are responsible to develop and maintain the female reproductive system and female characteristics. Our bodies make three major types of estrogen known as estrone, estradiol, and estriol. Estrogen is highest in the follicular phase. We test for the following types of estrogens: Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), Estriol (E3), 2-Hydroxyestrone, 2-Methoxyestradiol, and 2-Methoxyestrone.

Aka “feel good hormone” is a female sex hormone, highest in the luteal phase. Progesterone is an endogenous steroid and progestogen sex hormone involved in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and helps to thicken the lining of the uterus to prepare for a fertilized egg. It is mainly produced in the ovaries to reduce anxiety, irritability and support sleep as well as promoting feelings of calm and well being.

Known as predominately male sex hormones, androgens play a vital role in puberty and development and they support muscle, bone and brain health. We test for 3 types of androgens: DHEA, Testosterone, and 5a-Androstanediol. Testosterone is the most common androgen mainly produced in the ovaries and adrenal glands. Testosterone helps with sex drive, energy, and mood. After puberty it keeps the body fit and running properly.

Glucocorticoids are a class of corticosteroids, which are a class of steroid hormones. Usually made in the adrenal glands, they are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats and have anti-inflammatory activity. We test for 3 different types of glucocorticoids: Pregnanetriol, Cortisone, and Cortisol.

Melatonin is a hormone in your body that plays a role in sleep. The production and release of melatonin in the brain is connected to time of day, increasing when it's dark and decreasing when it's light. Melatonin production declines with age. Melatonin is an important player in the regulation of energy metabolism and glucose homeostasis. It is responsible for the daily distribution of energy metabolism functions (daily phase of high insulin sensitivity, glycogen synthesis, and lipogenesis and a sleep phase associated with the usage of stored energy).

Creatinine is a waste product that comes from the digestion of protein in your food and the normal breakdown of muscle tissue. It is the chemical the body makes to supply energy, mainly to muscles. It is removed from the blood through your kidneys. Everyone has some creatinine in their blood, but too much can be a sign of a possible kidney problem. If kidney function is not normal, the creatinine level in our urine decreases.

Which hormone testing method do you use?

We use dried urine hormone testing, which combines the benefits of the two most useful methods, 24-hour urine and saliva testing, in one simple test. By collecting four urine samples at specific times of the day, we are able to measure the circadian rhythm of adrenal hormones, which was previously only available with saliva testing.

How is your hormone test different than the DUTCH test?

The DUTCH test is also a dried urine test offered by a lab called Precision Analytical Inc. The word DUTCH stands for dried urine test for comprehensive hormones. The main difference between the DUTCH test and our lab partner’s test is in the following categories:

Biomarkers: The hormones and biomarkers measured by both tests are almost identical, except that our dried urine testing measures a few more estrogen metabolites. In fact we are the only dried urine testing that measures a particular estrogen metabolite group that can be used for breast cancer risk analysis. We also measure 4-point melatonin white the DUTCH test only measures waking melatonin. On the other hand the DUTCH test measures 5 nutritional organic acids such as vitamin B12, B6, three neuro-related markers, and two additional markers including oxidative stress/DNA damage. These biomarkers are not included in our dried urine testing.

Cost: The DUTCH Complete test by itself retails for $499 and this does not include a doctor’s consultation or review/analysis of test results. Feminade’s dried urine test is also $499; however, this price includes a 30 minute consultation with one of our naturopathic doctors that will provide you a full analysis and interpretation of your test results as well as a personalized treatment plan. You will also have access to unlimited messaging your doctor for the first 30 days!

Processing time: Currently you have to wait 3-4 weeks to get your DUTCH test results; however at Feminade your test results will be ready and uploaded 3-5 business days after the lab receives your samples!

Overall Femiande is a more convenient, accessible, and affordable option for dried urine hormone testing.

How long will it take for my test results to be ready?

Your test results will be ready 3-5 business days after the lab receives your samples.
